Job Title: Partner
Area: Operations
Industry: Manufacturing
Approach / Methodology: Predicitve / Waterfall
Team Size: 8
Budget: Classified
Start Date: February 2020
End Date: December 2020
Project Objectives
The project's objectives were to analyze the current manufacturing process, develop an optimization plan, and implement the updated processes.
Outcome
The outcome was an increase in process efficiency by 50% and a reduction in production failure by almost 80%.
My Role
My role was as Project Manager.
My responsibilities
I work with the project sponsor, the owner of the firm, to help create the project charter. I visited the manufacturing unit on a regular basis to collect the requirements from multiple stakeholders. Further, define the project scope and as well out of scope activities. I created a team of 6 members to help create the work breakdown structure. Further, I developed the budget, created the project schedule plan, and got it approved by the sponsor.
I created the plan for quality management to be verified as the project was executed. I compiled all the risks that can occur with both qualitative and quantitative risk assessments and created the risk management plan with the risk register. I discussed with all the stakeholders their communication mode and have planned ways to keep them engaged regularly. Further, I assigned resources based on the activities leading to the creation of the plan for resource management. Thus my entire project management plan was ready to be executed.
Now, I acquired the team by hiring two additional resources and started the work. As the project work was in full swing, I worked towards resolving any team conflicts as and when they arose and finding solutions in a timely manner. Any change requests during the project execution from the stakeholders were processed through the defined change management processes. I also monitored the work daily to ensure that the work was under scope, time, and within budget, further avoiding any scope creep.
Upon completion of the work, I facilitated the sponsor's acceptance of the deliverables. I then formally closed the project by documenting all required Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process improvements, conducting a comprehensive lessons-learned review, officially disbanding the project team, and securely archiving all project records.
Deliverables
The deliverables of the project were the entire new set of standard operating procedures with proper documentation — production scheduling charts with information radiators placed at prominent locations in the manufacturing unit. The employees of the firm were trained to understand and implement the updated process flow on a daily basis.
